Look, I don’t tell my story for you to pity me. Not at all, I am doing this to let people know who Jerry Elliott actually is, to tell the things which made me the person I am today, and for you to understand the story behind Jerry the boxer, trainer and song writer.
I was born on June 20, 1976 in Oke Ora, a small town in western Nigeria. I was the youngest of 12 children from my mother Florence Omage and my father Chife G.M.B Orumen. I grew up in a village without electricity and a proper running water system. We spent most of our time working on the farm, leaving us almost no time for school homework or leisure activities like sports, which our father also would not allow us to do. In order to support my mother, who had to take care of almost everything, I had to get up at 6 in the morning and walk up to 9 km in order to get drinking water from the river before I went to school. My father never gave us any financial aid. Additionally, he was beating us, he hated me so much that he didn't even choose a name for me until I was 7 years old. For these circumstances, other kids made fun of me.
As a child, I came home every day from school, only to meet my mom and dad fighting. And I was the last one who got beaten, even if I had nothing to do with their conflict. The memories from childhood are those of pain, sorrow, and sadness.
